"..."

There was something. Though Oswald held his stance, he did let out a breath as though attempting to speak. Still, now he was being accused of being a mere thief? The dark flames rolled higher and he moved a claw forward.

He backed off a step, but set his jaw and lifted his head. "Y'don't scare me, dude. I wanna know what the hell's goin' on here. If ya came dragged in from Hell or somewhere else and wanna hurt anybody, then I'm takin' you down right here n' now!"

"Or... maybe you're one'a the rare ones that gets turned into a dragon when ya show up here in Equestria. But they don't usually get dumped in the Everfree... usually it's Ponyville."

Sounded as though the challenge was placed, but Oswald stopped and turned his head, the shadows beginning to ebb off as the other continued rattling on. Equestria? Everfree? Ponyville?? He doesn't understand, but it sounded as though this... beast could provide him with an answer.

Powers disbursing, black scales, white horns and mane reappeared, the red receding to irises only. The right eye still glowed, but at least he was back to normal... for the most part. "What do you mean?" His voice was gruff - even more than usual - but at least he could still talk.

He watched as the dragon changed before him, and was all the more curious. His buddy Dante was a dragon, and another a bear... having some people turn into something other than a pony was kind of rare, but not unthinkable.

"We're, uh, taken from our worlds and put here as ponies or some other kind of animal. You were probably human once, yeah?"

"Another... world?" There were others beyond Erion? But how? He didn't understand this at all. However, at the question of whether he was human before, Oswald turned his head the other way. "... I was."

Still, he's not too sure how human he considered himself.

"...So that explains the scroll. We all get one when we land here. You can talk to other people with scrolls if ya talk at the paper a bit and send it off." He eased his body language and breathed a sigh.

"People're pretty nice here. Don't be like me and growl at 'em or whatever- they can get spooked. It's give n' get here, so if ya relax n' be friendly... y'know." He turned and nodded into the woods.

"I guess as apology for threatening to pick a fight with ya, I'll leadja to Ponyville, meet Nephenee and get a place to stay."

"..." He hadn't even been aware of the scroll, but now that he looked around, Oswald found the parchment the other referred to. Raising a claw, he pawed at it, rolling it back towards him just enough to look at it. He didn't understand how this was meant to speak with others here... or why he should bother attempting that. Still, that meant this world had some sort of magic.

Eyes back on the quadrupedal animal, he felt himself frown, but didn't know if it was expressed. If the others were so timid, he probably shouldn't be around them. Relaxing wasn't entirely something he was able to do; not with his own curse back.

"... Is it necessary for one to reside in this... Ponyville?"

Kanji was two steps in when he asks the question, and the earth pony comes to a stop, peering over his shoulder.

"...Not really, no. Some of us live here in the Everfree Forest. The, uh, more private ones do. Place is full of monsters, so most of us live in town where it's safer."

He shrugged. "But you're a dragon, so I imagine you could stick it out out here."

Monsters... At least that didn't sound unfamiliar to him.

Either way, that was all he needed to hear. If the Everfree was inhabitable, then he was going to stay here. Oswald doesn't say anything as he turned the other way to go deeper into the forest.
