Bon Bon (OU) | My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

1. Ponyville. It’s the same…but it’s also slightly different. I can feel it in the air, like a harsh wind blowing through my mane as I blend into the crowd on a hot summer’s day.

Ponyville’s residents would know this mare as Bon Bon, one who had three wrapped candies on her flank as a cutie mark, and as previously stated she was blending into the crowd quite well. Especially since this particular crowd was in line at a familiar candy shop she’d remember very well.

Rumor around the haybales is that this Equestria’s different, that any mare, stallion, filly or colt can be pulled from anywhere and anytime…and obviously, that’s what happened to me. If that’s so, it would explain why this Ponyville’s version of me doesn’t run the candy store. Or maybe she does, and she was recalled into action.

Bon Bon’s eyes shifted for a moment or two, glancing around curiously for any suspicious looking ponies while making her way inside. (No, that wasn’t another Bon Bon still hanging out near the back of the line!)

Does she still use her real name, Special Agent Sweetie Drops, or maybe she goes by Bon Bon like I do? Does Lyra know the truth about me here? If she doesn’t, what would happen if I ran into her and tried to tell her the truth? Would she flip out again like she did back home…?

The mare steeled herself while approaching the register, offering the young mare at the counter a smile and quickly placed her order. After a few moments, she responded with a polite ‘Thanks!’ and exited just as stealthily with her favorite treats.

Maybe it’s best if I don’t see Lyra right now. It seems like this young filly she has running the store can handle herself just fine, so showing up would make things awkward for her. If that’s the case…maybe it’s for the best if Ponyville doesn’t get back another Bon Bon. It sounds like ponies just keep returning home, one after the other for the past few weeks. If so, I’ll just have to make all of Equestria my home until I’m sent home.


2. Attention, everypony! I have an announcement to make!

…No, you’re not imagining things; if you think you’re seeing a pony who ran a candy store in downtown Ponyville near Town Hall, you’re right! I’m Bon Bon…but I’m not the Bon Bon you all remember. I’m a different Bon Bon, but I’m still the same pony even if my memories aren’t the same. For anypony who knew the other me, I’ll do my best to get along with you or anypony who wants to be my friend.

Oh, I guess I should add this before I go; she’d be upset if I didn’t mention her at least once…has anypony seen Lyra around? Lyra Heartstrings? She does live in Ponyville, right? At least, back home she does. If she’s not here, just tell her Bon Bon wants to talk and that it’s really important.

Thanks again, everypony. You may now return to your regularly unscheduled scroll duties. (The scroll rolls up and vanishes, but Bon Bon did grant whichever pony deemed to listen a smile.)

[There's a mare standing there, looking a little watery-eyed as she takes a tentative step forward.] Are... you back?

...Lyra!

(The only thought that ran through Bon Bon's head was Does she know? Do I have the right to hurt her again...? It looks like she's been through a lot already.)

Yeah...I'm back. I-I'm not the Bon from this world, but...I wanted to tell you something important.

[humanesqueheartstrings]

It's okay if you're not, I just wanted to see you. I know duplicates don't matter but... go ahead.

[agentbonbon]

Okay. (She sighs and takes a moment before nodding firmly.) I'm just glad I don't have to tell you during another attack, but...my name's not really Bon Bon.

It's Sweetie Drops. Special agent Sweetie Drops.

...... and all this time, you've been living under an assumed name, with me, in my house, in my bed... and I didn't know your real name?

If this were seven months earlier, I'd probably have gotten mad. But I can't anymore. I'm just glad you're here.

[agentbonbon]

...I'm sorry, Lyra! I couldn't tell you for your own protection.

(A serious case of deja vu, at least in Bon Bon's case. Yes, she totally pulls out a set of shades to put them on.)

Have you ever heard of the legend of...the bugbear?

Yeah I have. Princess Luna, the scrappy one, talks about them all the time how she goes hunting for them.

[agentbonbon]

One escaped Tartarus a few years ago, and I'm assuming the same thing happened in this Equestria. I was part of a super secret spy agency dedicated to bringing it in. I was the one who finally took it down, came to Ponyville when Celestia disbanded our entire agency, had us destroy and shred any bit of evidence that proved we existed and assumed the name Bon Bon.

...She's the one who drinks too much coffee, right?

Huh, interesting. And no, it hasn't happened YET but there's been another Equestria who has a lot of them.

And that's only happened once, coffee overdose I mean.

[agentbonbon]

...Really? The bugbear hasn't escaped Tartarus in this Equestria? If that's so, then I might've come here willingly. Still would've gone with Bon Bon though.

Ohhh, okay! A coffee overdose; yeah I heard of those.

[humanesqueheartstrings]

It's fine, we're short a Bonnie anyhow. Not that I'm still salty about that but still...

Yeah, she and Pinkie have done it once before.

[agentbonbon]

...I really am sorry, Lyra. I know this probably wasn't what you wanted to hear about me when I came back.

Wow, both of them? I'd better remember to cut back.

[humanesqueheartstrings]

That's fine, I just, need to adjust a little. You still coming home later?

Yeah, they crashed hard.

[agentbonbon]

...Yes. It's been a few hours for me, but you've waited long enough for me to come back. (She hugs Lyra tightly, giving the other mare a gentle smile.)

I'll still let that young filly run the store, however. Seems like she's doing a pretty good job.

She is. Ruby's a good girl, and your folks are helping too.

My parents too? Good call on getting their help.

So...what else have you been up to since I left?

[humanesqueheartstrings]

Yeah, I figured they needed to step in.

Well, adjusting, studying, coping, stuff like that.

[agentbonbon]

...Uh-huh. Adjusting and coping I get but you're studying what, exactly?

[humanesqueheartstrings]

... Elements of Harmony.

I've been looking for a way to harness their power for a separate user.

[agentbonbon]

Huh. Sounds intriguing but that also sounds like something Princess Twilight would do. Have you discussed it with her?

She's been on a journey recently. So I needed to check this for myself.

[agentbonbon]

Ohhh...must be something that can't be solved in 30 minutes or less. What have you found out?

Not much, only stuff already known.
