Considering how much hostility there is towards him, which I guess is good reason, I have to ask: have any of you actually spoken with Shanks? Actually talked to him and tried to find out what his problem with us is on a more personal level, or are we just going to immediately decide the guy has to be our enemy?

Just kind of curious, I mean most of you are the colorful friendship horses, not me.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-31 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
I've always wondered that too. I think a big problem is that he's in a position where it's hard to talk to him, and figure out why he's so against us. And I think he knows that too.

Still, if there was ever a chance, it'd be nice to at least get some answers from him...even if they aren't very good ones.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-31 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Difficulty in talking with him, sure. But why not try playing his game, or stroking his ego to try and get him to do something. Someone's running our own magazine or something, right? Why not try requesting an interview with him. It won't be the best way to talk to him, especially since it'd be best to agree to his terms at first, but hey. It'd be a start, cause it's clear we're not getting anywhere just getting angry at this guy.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-31 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
That might not be a bad idea. Though we'd still have to be careful. If he's really just out to get us, anything we do could give him an opportunity to make us look bad. Even if it's just asking to interview him.

Hey, there's a chance he could be a serious sleazeball. Far as I'm concerned, he probably is. But it looks better to take the high road and say we tried, at least. Easier to slander him, too, if it comes to it.

Slander should never be an option. We're better than that. It should always come down to the truth, no matter how hard it hurts.

Agreed.

I got a brief chance to talk to him at the movie premiere and stroking his ego should work. Just act like one of his brainless fans and hang on his every word, he won't suspect a thing.

...

That said, if anyone happens to want a copy of his signature for, I don't know, forging letters or checks from him, I can probably help you out there.

The fool is simply an inexperienced entertainer. His movie was simply average and he keeps on attempting to dissuade you outsiders from enjoying yourselves, thereby alienating you and him.

'Tis simple showbusiness to always make an attempt to include as much people as possible within your audience! In fact, if I had a hoof at Quarterhorse Quarterly, there would be no doubt that all would enjoy every single word typed within its magnificent pages!

(Anonymous) 2015-05-31 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
So you all just assume crap instead of asking anything, got it.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-31 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
What is there to assume? Many ponies have tried and failed in the exact same way. Tom Shanks will merely be another victim to such inexperience... 'Tis the only way he shall learn.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-31 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not even sure what you're trying to tell me that you think here? That this is all some performance art by him that he's trying to take advantage of?

Also not really answering the question. Instead of letting him just blunder on and insult us why not...you know? Actually extend a hand to the guy? Considering how this place is supposed to work from what I've been told, it seems like this would have better affects than just arguing with him or getting angry at his crap.

I haven't spoken directly with him, no, but I did have a long heart to heart with Pers Muskiet Raker, the pony directly below him. The original owner of Hoovesweek.

The pony whom he's more or less extorted into working for him under threat of poverty. The boss and mother figure to the other ponies he's extorted with similar 'promises'.

I'm not particularly inclined to know what his problem with the newponies and their sympathizers is, given how he treats someone who has lived in Equestria all her life and poured her heart and soul into a periodical that once long ago had some modicum of self-respect.

Oh gosh, I talked with her too. Hearing all that's my main reason for not liking him a bunch.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-31 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
Spoke to him a little bit, but...honestly, him doing what he has been don't sit right with me. Reminds me too much of some stuff that happened back where I come from.

Gotta say, I've got a good amount of patience, but I don't suffer fools like him gladly. Trying to incite others against folks not like them? Against the crown?

No thanks. I helped put down that once. I don't want to need to again. Rebellions get folks hurt.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-31 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
I did have a chance to speak with him on that night of the premiere. He seemed... off. I know some directors are odd, but he appeared to be far beyond that. I suspect corruption, either by Calice to drive a wedge between us and the native population, or by another party entirely.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-31 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you think our chances are that it's "corruption", airquotes intended to imply the same thing that turned Twilight into Calice?

Whatever is going on in Equestria, it's not something that is a natural, everyday jump off the slippery slope.
