Okay, gimme a sec to bring up GIMP and I'll try it out.

It looks alright, but I dunno. It looks like he dripped his tail in paint.

Maybe try making the upper edge jagged instead of just straight across? That might make it look less like paint.

Hmm, it does look better and more like his tails. It might work, though it feels like it's missing something.
