Hayate is having trouble understanding why anypony would want to walk when they could be flying.

So she'll just do what she normally does when presented with cognitive dissonance and act like Itsuki didn't actually say anything.

"Okay, first, extend your wings!"

But really... what would it hurt? If she was actually a pegasus for whatever strange reason... why not enjoy it? So when the instructions come, she doesn't question. She just keeps trying to move limbs until she finds "open wings," and once the matching appendages move, she feels out sliding them to extension. It's a process that involves a lot of watching in disbelief, because really, are those truly her wings?

After a moment's time, she calls up, "Got it!"

Hayate casts a critical eye over the wings and nods in satisfaction.

"Alright! Do a few practice flaps, and once you think you've gotten the hang of moving them in synch, jump!"

[sunbloom]

"Okay...!" Flap, flap. It was really weird to have these shiny new wings there... awesome, sure, but terribly disorienting. It's a moment before she feels ready, but then, she's never had trouble with confidence in her physical abilities.

Crouching, judging the strength in her limbs, she suddenly launches off the ground, remembering to flap her wings and praying that physics hadn't changed on her... and pleasantly surprised when she is, indeed, maintaining altitude a few feet from the ground. "Is... is it working? I think it's working!"

Hayate does a loop around Itsuki in sheer exuberance before replying.

"It's working! Of course, that's only natural when you have somepony as awesome as me teaching you!"

[sunbloom]

Itsuki's surprise grows into a full-out grin, laughing at Hayate's cheer a little. "Thank you, really. I guess I was just being a little paranoid. No sudden tricks for me yet, though. This is new enough, and I'd rather not find out what crashing feels like without a buffer."

It's one thing to hit the ground at extreme speeds while buffered by magical clothing-armor. It's another to hit with four legs and no protection at all.

"Oh, that makes sense!"

Slight pause.

"Oh, I'm Hayate, by the way!"
