[In his distress he didn't even notice the odd little deer bleaty noises he just made. Were you saying something, Arcee?]

[Yeah, she was... But now she forgot.]

Nothing, never mind. ...You sure you're okay?

Not really, no. ..But I'll be ok, I guess.

[Way to push that optimism.]

I just need to figure out how to walk on these toothpicks of mine.

You need to find your center balance.

[Says Arcee, the cat, the animal with naturally good balance. Yeah, learning to walk again wasn't very hard for her.]

[He seems aware, if that sour expression is anything to go by.]

Dunno how you can help, unless you can tell me how to stand without knocking other ponies over.

[He sighs as he gets back up to his feet, wobbling a bit. He's already rammed into enough pe- ....ponies today, and he doesn't want this whole town hating him on the first day.]

[...Wow, thanks Dipper. That makes her feel great. Just for that? She's going to waltz over to his side and push one of those wobbly legs.]

Rule number one, don't doubt me. Or do you see anyone else jumping at the chance to help you?

[It's like sticking a feather in a wind tunnel because DOWN HE GOES, falling onto his side with his legs sticking straight out while he takes a moment to figure out what just happened.]

[Smug cat is smug.]

[He huffs and wobbles his way back to his feet.]

...It'd be easier if my legs weren't so long.

Is complaining all you can do? Seriously? Look, I get what it's like to be at a disadvantage, but whining about it isn't gonna make it any better. You need to make it work for you.

[She gives his legs a look over again, trying to get some ideas.]

Obviously these legs weren't meant to have a lot of weight put on them... This is going to sound weird, but maybe you should try skipping.

[He's a disgruntled 12 year-old, so yes, apparently.]

[He can barely stand up, and now you're asking him to skip?]

And you think it'll work?

[Cat shrug.]

But really, what do we have to lose?

[...Fair enough. With a heavy sigh and a little butt-wiggle of preparation, Dipper does a little hop forwards. Then another, and another, before turning around and making his way back.

Hey, no falling over! It's a little silly, but it works.]

..Please don't tell me I'm going to have to keep walking like this.

[Oh wow, she was right? Well, doesn't that just warm her spark. Heart. Whatever. Either way it's nice to know she knows more about biology than she thought.]

At least until you get better at it. Beats falling on your face, doesn't it?

[He's just gonna plop back down on his rump again, snorting.]

[Another shrug, although this time it's much more casual and friendly.]

People helped me when I got here, thought I should return the favor somehow. Besides, no one wants to be stranded in a new world alone.

[Dipper nods slowly, his ears falling back again.]

Yeah. I'm...glad you feel that way, at least.
