I showed up around five minutes ago. Didn't expect to see you here. Colorful horses are more Nora's thing.

[Nonetheless, Ren is glad to see him. He wasn't alone here.]

So should I ask what you were doing up there this time?

Yeahh, it really is.

[He hadn't much thought about it, but he had to admit...]

Oh, what, me? [A pffft as he waved a hoof dismissively.] Just trying to fix a few things at my campsite, and I got on the wrong end of a bent branch.

Wasn't ah... wasn't really expecting it to throw me quite that far, though. [Seriously, that was almost cartoonish.]

A branch.

[Jaune how do you even get yourself into these situations? Maybe he'll never figure it out. For now, more important questions need asking.]

How long have you been here, if you've had time to set up a camp?

I've been here about, uhh... [He has to think for a moment, it's been kind of confusing honestly.] About two months now, more or less.

[Then to forestall a comment-] Okay, I know what you're gonna say. You're gonna look at me with your "That's crazy" face, but trust me. Time stops wherever you left from, so when you go back? Nothing's changed.

I've been through it once already. [He shrugged.] It's not that big a deal.

[Jaune still gets the "That's crazy" face, even after the explanation.]

The only reason I'm going to believe you is so I can sleep tonight without worrying what I'm missing back at Beacon.

[All those missed classes... and he wouldn't be back in time to be graded on the first job assignment!]

Okay, I'll prove it to you.

The first time I came here, it was just before the dance, okay? I was here for a couple weeks and then gone, back home to Beacon, exactly where I'd left from. Then everything continued like normal, the ball went off without a hitch- kinda, cuz I thiiink something happened with Ruby? I dunno -and there was that speech that Ozpin gave, and here I am again.

The thing was, nobody had noticed I was gone. And it was literally like I disappeared between one footstep and the next. It's crazy, but like I said. No big deal.

...And I still saw you after that, up until the assignment with a veteran hunter and the Grimm attack on Vale.

[Huh. Guess he is telling the truth.]

I guess that's some comfort, but we should still try and find a way home for good.

Believe me, I've been try-

Wait. [He stared at Ren, stock still.] What... Grimm attack on Vale??

From what I heard, the White Fang crashed an abandoned underground train into Vale and drew in Grimm to the hole. We managed to fight it off, luckily. You held your own out there, too.

[He couldn't speak for a few moments and when he did, it was in a small, croaked voice.] ......Whoa.

[Blink. He did?] I did?

Yeah, you did. Took down an Ursa without so much as a scratch.

[He won't mention his own kill count for that fight. Or anyone else's.]

[He seemed impressed for a moment, and then laughed, unsure.]

Ooookay, now I know you're pulling my leg.

Just trust me on this. You'll see for yourself when we get back.

[He doesn't look entirely convinced, but he's at least willing to let it go.

Instead he shifts around to look down Ren's body, particularly at his new appendages.]

You're a pegasus, that's awesome! Have you had a chance to try them out yet?

I just said I got here a few minutes ago. I haven't had much of a chance to do anything yet.

Hey, I don't know what you did when you came in. [Shrug, grin, and after a moment he reaches up a hoof to lightly poke at a wing without actually touching it.]

Okay, now you gotta though.

I have a bad feeling about this, but sure, I'll give it a shot.

[If only because he knows Jaune won't drop it until he tries.]

[Experimentally, he flaps his wings. Slowly at first, getting a feel for them. He had no idea how to fly, but maybe he could just going by instinct, and maybe a little help from his Aura.]

[These wings look kinda small, though... can these really lift him off the ground? One way to find out.]

[After a bit of mental preparation, he takes a breath, and makes an Aura-powered jump at the same time as he gives a hard flap of his wings. Given that a pegasus can easily get into the air without Aura, the effort results in him rocketing a good several hundred feet into the air.]

[It's gonna be a bit before he comes back down. Oops.]

[Jaune immediately rushes into the spot Ren had been standing, staring up at the sky in open awe.]

Whoaaa...!

[It looked awesome, but Ren didn't exactly plan for what to do when he actually got up there. He's no stranger to being in the air, but using wings to control himself was harder than it looked. He gives it his best shot, and manages to at least glide for a bit, but further attempts to fly only result in knocking himself off balance and falling back to earth.]

[Now it's Ren's turn to take a faceplant into the ground. Hope you've gotten out of the way, Jaune.]

[He does actually, scrambling backwards just in time to miss Ren's crash landing. He's over and helping up his teammate before the dust even settles, but there's nothing but joy on his face.]

That was really cool! I mean, except for the end but you'll get there. [A short laugh.] Heh, I'm kinda glad I don't have wings, I'd probably be doing that daily.

[And that's not even getting to the airsickness thing. Ponyville's much better all around with Jaune being an Earth pony.]

[Ren stands up and brushes himself off.]

I think that was less flying and more a really big fall. I'll have to practice more.

Falling with style, though! [He was still all smiles at Ren, clearly impressed.] You'll get it in no time.

Not like I have anything else to do now.

[Kinda hard to study when your books are a universe away.]
