Yep, he saw this coming.

"Calm down. Stretch your legs and wings out and keep them there. We'll glide down."

He demonstrates the position to give her an idea of what he's talking about.

[pishirogane]

"Wings out and... legs down."

It felt like her joints were popping as she attempts to extend them again, wings wobbling, but holding flat. Glide, glide...! Her wings twitch, but she holds.

Once he's sure she's in control, he glides down along with her.

"Good. Use your head to steer if you need."

[pishirogane]

"My head...?"

No one had mentioned that before. Still, she turns it slightly and finds herself listing to the right.

[foolish_seal]

"There you go. It shouldn't be hard to land from here. Just let yourself come to the ground."

He tucks his wings in to land first, looknig back up into the air to make sure she lands properly.

[pishirogane]

Watching him fly ahead, she attempts to imitate his landing. It isn't as smooth - her stumbling over hoof for a second - but she stands straight soon enough.

"... Thank you."

It was pretty good for a first try.

"No problem. You're new here, I take it?"

[pishirogane]

"Yes and no. I'm new in the sense I haven't been here as long as my senpai or other first-years, but it's been long enough that I can walk. I thought it was time I should learn to fly."

Wings flapping a few more times, they soon tuck against her back. "I really should have taken some... pony's help, or at least, ask for a spotter."

Now that he's heard her talk some more, Minato has a pretty solid idea of who this is, having known her previously. Judging from the way she was acting, though, the reverse wasn't true. He'll bring that up later, if it's ever relevant.

"Huh. Usually I'm good at finding newcomers. But sure, I can help."

[pishirogane]

"I would appreciate it."

Taking a second, she feels a shiver and her fur stands up as she shakes it out. After this was over, she was going to want fire and hot tea. "So, I can get off the ground... what else do I need to know?"

Minato takes a moment to try and recall the lessons he learned, but soon realizes that it consisted mostly of him jumping off cliffs until the landing didn't hurt.

"Most of it you'll learn just by doing and watching others, but for now, just keep your eyes open, and don't go too high until you're ready. Might also be a good idea to keep bandages on hoof, just in case."

[pishirogane]

"I get the idea of my wings now; I doubt I'll close my eyes aga-- bandages?"

She pauses for a moment, staring blankly at him. "... Dare I ask what happened while you were learning to fly?"

"Let's just say I didn't have anypony to spot for me."

Trial and error is a valid way to learn, just not always the best, or safest.

[pishirogane]

"... I can only imagine how that ended up."

If he's telling her to get a roll of bandages. "You didn't end up in the hospital, did you?"

[foolish_seal]

"Nah, I can heal. Bandages just help speed up the process."

Just casually dropping that piece of info.

[pishirogane]

"Ah... Well, as long as you can heal."

She was going to keep that in mind.
