[Internally, Mami is in full panic mode, wondering just what the fuck is going on. Outside, only mild confusion.]

What's wrong?

Shut up. [ Kyouko's shaking her head. ] Shut up, okay, I don't...

[ She feels herself about to lose it before she finally does. ]

You're dead! You and Sayaka and I, we all died and the other two don't stand a bucking chance.

[And Mami still has no idea what's going on. She's starting to lose it, too.]

I- I'm not dead...!

[Mami abruptly stands up and bashes her hooves on the table.]

Look at me, I'm breathing! You're breathing! Just- just calm down and everything will be fine! We're alive! See? Alive!

Yeah? [ Her voice is cold. ] Are we alive there or here? Ever think that this might not be a mortal realm?

Be glad you bucking got out of it. There's far worse that could have happened to ... either of us.

[Mami frowns.]

B- but we're alive... I know we're alive... I don't feel like I'm dead... You, me, Kyubey... Even Homura... we're all alive...

...Is- is this some sort of witch's curse!?

[Mami immediately gets her soul gem out, ready to transform and save Kyoko from whatever witch is causing this. She's trying her best to keep her head on in this situation.]

[ Kyouko doesn't react. ] Go ahead, senpai. Fight your way out of this one. See how that goes for you.

[ She takes the tea and sips it again. ]

[Mami stares at Kyoko for a few seconds before calming down a little and looking for any nearby grief seeds.]

[ Watching her old teacher with about as much emotion as Homura. ] What? Missing something?

[bustadecapinyoass]

I'm- I'm looking to see if there's any Grief Seeds nearby.

[Her voice is reassuring, but who is Mami trying to reassure?]

[ Kyouko watches her for a while. In the meantime, she struggles with the tea kettle. She manages to tip a little extra liquid into her cup. ]

Well?

I'll find it soon!

[kuukai]

[ Kyouko barks a laugh. It's ugly and high. ] You won't.

[bustadecapinyoass]

N- no! I'll find the grief seed and destroy the witch! You'll be fine and we'll all be alive...! Then we can continue on as partners!

[WHY CAN'T SHE FIND A GRIEF SEED!?]

D'ya think I'd want to be partners with someone who's delusional?!

[ She's sorry she said it the instant she does. It's like a vast hole opens up between them with those words. But it's too late. ]

[Mami whips her head to look at Kyoko in horror. Those words hurt her far more than Kyoko might realize. There's a huge lump in her throat as Mami fights back tears.]

She just wishes that Kyoko and her would be on even terms, that they would be happy in each others' company again, that they'd become friends again. It looks like Mami was wrong.

Mami smiles as she swallows down the lump in her throat, smiling cheerfully.]
