[Blinks.

What a minute, he knew that voice. Marty whipped around to see a unicorn that, for lack of a better way of saying it, looked suspiciously like the Doc he knew.]

... Doc?

[4thdimensional]

[Doc blinks. It's a...the gills and teeth suggest dragon, but it's small. It's also dressed like Marty. Talks like him too. Could it be?]

...Marty?

Doc!

[Marty almost instantly breaks into a sprint towards Doc at that confirmation and wraps his arms around his friend's neck. Sorry Doc, he missed you.]

Marty...

[What a relief that his best friend is here. Doc notes idly that Marty seems to be quite used to his existence as a dragon---clearly, he's had longer to adjust.

A second later, he also notes that Marty's hug somehow feels exactly the same as always. Doc is compelled to reciprocate---Marty's obviously been through hell---but flounders on how to do it. His foreleg trembles until it clicks into place: he awkwardly wraps a foreleg and his chin around Marty.]

How long were you waiting for me?

[Marty hesitates before eventually breaking up the hug and responding to the question, deliberately avoiding any eye contact.]

Over a year now. It's... a long story.

[Of course they probably have plenty of time now that Doc's here, but he really didn't want to seem like he desperately missed Doc or anything.]

[It took awhile for Twilight to get back to reality, but when she finally did, she couldn't help but blink, yelp, then blush furiously. Someone was talking to her and she'd zone out in favor of quick mental training when they showed up.]

Oh, jeez, I'm sorry! I hadn't realized you'd get here so fast and I decided to do a bit of training before I talked to you.

[She grinned sheepishly before shaking her head.]

Though, I am glad you're here...

[Doc feels a massive twinge of irrational guilt. He lowers his head too, trying to peek.]

But it won't take anywhere near a year to tell it? Help me understand and we can fix this. For example...

[He turns to look at his wild tail and catches sight of something. His jaw drops comically.]

Why the hell is the flux capacitor tattooed on my ass? I can assure you I wasn't a regular at the tattoo parlors in Hill Valley.

So am I. The others from this world all disappeared.

I can't explain the principles behind it, but it's kind of similar to the way you were brought here.

See, there's a crazy version of us from a different Equestria than both yours and this one that's been taking ponies and others from this world and bringing ponies and others from other worlds here for close to two years now. She calls herself Cálice.

[Twilight can't help but grunt a bit.]

I don't think it wouldn't of hurt for a bit of relaxation after the last crisis?

[She shakes her head and sighs]

Okay, so crazy-evil me is using this Equestria as its plaything. Do we have some sort of plan for all of this?

[Couldn't be too hard - we got a Twilight here!]

Nnnnnot really, no. She's spent most of her time hiding in some other dimension we haven't figured out how to get to.

And there are a couple things that might also need to be worked around...

She has a full set of Elements of Harmony which she can use alone, and ours don't work because she's taken away my friends. The two times she has shown up, she's been more-or-less untouchable anyway, as well.

[Another growl followed by a facehoof. Okay, if this Calice really IS her, then she's good enough to defeat that plan.]

Okay, okay, we'll figure out something about that later. There's gotta be something else we can do. Um... you said "others". "Others" as in...?

Mostly formerly humans. A lot of them brought magic-like abilities with them, and until a few months ago there was a giant labyrinth underneath Canterlot that had recreations of places from other worlds, and sometimes gave those abilities room to spread. On the other hand, a lot of them have reported that those abilities feel weaker, so you might want to check whatever it is that pendant of yours is.

Feel weaker? That's not good. [And she telekinetically lifts up the pendant.] Raising Heart? Is there anything wrong with us?

[UNCERTAIN. MANA LEVELS ARE AT MAXIMUM, HOWEVER POSSIBLE OUTPUT HAS BEEN CHANGED.]

...that's not good.

It doesn't sound good, no, but you know more about it than I do. It at least has to do with that training you mentioned earlier, though, doesn't it? I noticed it glowing while you had that thousand-yard stare.

Ah, yes, it does. It's a long story, but Raising Heart has a way to help me train without actually doing anything physical. I guess you can say it's all in the mind.

Do you neglect your physical health because of that?

Well, I try not to get too carried away with doing that and I usually have Spike to snap me out when I'm needed.

...I wasn't drooling when you saw me, was I? He sometimes says I do.

[Marty manages a small chuckle at that. Ah, he missed Doc's eccentricity.]

Yeah, that's a cutie mark. Ponies get them here once they figured out their destiny, apparently.

[He makes a Doc face at that term. He doesn't like it.]

Well I suppose it's true. Time travel is my destiny. And dragons don't realize theirs in the same way?

...assuming, of course, that you are a dragon. It's what you most closely resemble, but I don't entirely resemble Earth horses either...something very peculiar is going on.

...right, of course. Pony future.

[He shrugs. Okay, he'll roll with it.]

I'm still not clear on why I'm suddenly part of pony future.
