[ So. Let's recap: get out of a war (or at least your part in the Miltian Conflict), survive a grievous wound, and instead of waking up in a hospital room (or any room, Nigredo isn't sure; the pain medication had made it all so fuzzy) after two days of agony and all sorts of doctors, it's Pony World and you're a dragon. Literally a dragon. Literally a dragon. Smooth, black scales and all.

So that's a perfectly decent reason to slink under a cart set up in the central market, right? Right. And perhaps some of it is instinct: look for cover, case your environment. ]

I'm dreaming. [ Only logical explanation. It's some kind of dream. Which, compared to the usual, is surprisingly better than the dark things that have plagued him for the last while.

Unfortunately, fitting under that cart doesn't go all that well, as one might imagine, considering trying to fit under it topples it on its side, spilling everything, and the pony that happens to own it isn't all that happy, making that plenty known. ]

Sorry! I-- I'm, I have to go.

[ Yeah. How about that dragon kind of wandering around? ]

*Well, there's also a red unicorn wandering around with a phoenix on his shoulder. There's something familiar about you, little black dragon with green eyes...actually, you look a lot like a younger version of Kukai when he decides to look like a dragon.*

You there. Did you just arrive?

[ Worst dream ever. But, indeed, it is Kukai before Kukai was ever... well, you know.

There's some hesitancy while he looks around him-- clearly they're talking to someone else. No? Well. ]

Yes. [ In a word. ]

*Great, lost kid. He's not exactly too enthused about dealing with kids these days, but...well, he's met at least one not crazy one? Besides, you still remind him of someone he knows. And apparently he still remembers how to do comforting, because his expression softens as he nods.*

Welcome to Equestria. Before you ask, you're not hallucinating. This is a world entirely separate from your own, and outsiders here are transformed on arrival into something native to here.

I'm sorry, but... I think I might have to disagree with you.

[ Still polite as ever, but at least the softened expression seems to work a little-- Nigredo relaxes just a fraction. ]

I know it's difficult to believe, but it's the truth. You get used to these things after a few years.

A few years? Look, I apologize, I don't mean to be impolite, but I really can't honestly believe it.

Then do you have another explanation to offer?

As I said, it's difficult to believe at first, but I've long since passed the point of doubting these things.

The good news is that some of the locals and more established offworlders have set up both temporary funds and housing options for new arrivals.

[ Nigredo starts to say something, anything. Like 'I don't want to stay here', 'You can't honestly expect this of me', but keeps that to himself.

Instead: ] I see. Thank you, I appreciate it, but I think I have to find someone before I take this further.

[ Dragon or no, there's one person in the whole universe more important than anything or anyone else. He couldn't have been the only one to just pop up, right? Right. Not if they're having this exact conversation. ]

Who? I've been here long enough that I may recognize the name if they're present.

My brother. [ ....whatever his brother would look like now, anyways. ] His name's Rubedo. He'd be... new, as well, I think.

[So, older!Gaignun here is just in his black earth pony form (being a changeling he kind of prefers it to whatever else he can be) minding his own business when he sees the black dragon.

[ Well, aside from the whole being a dragon thing (that's normally a dream a kid has, right, being a cool dragon or something?), it's difficult to tell if the weird feeling Nigredo is getting back is a part of it, or not.

No-- [ Wait, not what he'd wanted to say. ] I mean, yes, but...

That voice...[He knew that voice like it was his own. Oh wait.]

[He says it kindly, but he thinks he already knows but he's in denial. Surely not...]

He pauses, just a fraction. ] Nigredo. [ he's polite, at the very least. ]

Ah, so you are. [Oh heck...you're him. You're who he used to be. The one he had to learn not to be. The one he missed almost most of all.]

Nigredo...don't worry about it, I'm Gaignun. I'm glad you're alright.

[ Oh, Gaignun. You realize he can smell a lie a mile away, don't you?

Still, Nigredo doesn't press it. He's not much in a situation to. ]

[He knows Nigredo has enough nightmares.]

I see. [ If you listen close enough, there's definitely disappointment there. ] Then perhaps you can help me.

[ As much as Nigredo has to think about, there is one person that's more important than anyone or anything else in the universe right now, and he has to find him before he loses his mind. ]

I'll try. What do you need? [He can guess a few things, but he needs Nigredo to narrow it down.]

[ Well, whatever he looks like now, anyways, but Rubedo's boisterous, so how hard could that really be? ]
